False Nine & BT Sport Films present Iron Man: The Sean Fallon Story
BT Sport will premiere the next instalment in its acclaimed BT Sport Films series, Iron Man: The Sean Fallon Story, on 25th May at 10pm on BT Sport 1 and on 27th May at 9:45pm on BT Sport 2.
Adapted from, and building upon, the critically acclaimed book ‘Sean Fallon: Celtic’s Iron Man’ (published by BackPage Press), this film will explore the incredible life of one of football’s lesser-known heroes through interviews with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish, archive footage, animated sequences and, by using an actor portraying Sean Fallon, quotes from the man himself.
The film will depict Fallon’s time as a young man in Ireland, realising his unlikely dream of signing for Celtic after being banned from playing Gaelic football. It will also trace his hugely successful partnership with the legendary Jock Stein, under which Celtic enjoyed unprecedented success, winning a record nine successive league titles and becoming the first British team to lift the European Cup. Scouting and signing players was one of Fallon's most significant roles in that partnership, and the film will show how he emerged as Britain's greatest talent-spotter by bringing the likes of Dalglish, Danny McGrain, Paul McStay, Packie Bonner and several of those European Cup-winning Lisbon Lions to Celtic Park. Several major figures, including Sir Alex Ferguson - to whom the Irishman was a mentor - will also explain what Fallon meant to them, and how he impacted their lives and careers.
Other BT Sport Films that have already aired to date include:
o The Crazy Gang: an in-depth look at the extraordinary story of Wimbledon FC in the 1980s.
o One Day in May: The Story of The Bradford City Fire: the story of how a fire took so quickly that it consumed the main stand at Bradford City in less than four minutes in 1985
o Cornered: The film follows the story of Johnny Greaves, a 100-fight veteran of the professional boxing game who has won only four fights.
False Nine producer Luke Bower-Massey commented: “We are proud to be partnering with BT Sport Films on this exciting project. We were captivated by Sean Fallon's wonderful story and believe that BT Sport, with their experience in producing excellent documentaries, will help us achieve a film of the highest possible calibre. The fact that BT Sport are the exclusive UK broadcasters for the UEFA Champions League also makes the partnership all the more exciting, particularly as we approach the 50th anniversary of Sean Fallon helping Celtic to lift that famous trophy.”
