“Sean was always a crutch. There are people you depend on for advice and he was one of those. He was brilliant for me. I think he was one of life’s wonders; a truly great guy. He was a rock of a man.”
- Sir Alex Ferguson
“I think every footballer looks back on people who were important to their development, and Sean was certainly very important to me. Really, he was the man who started it all off for me. He was just a hugely important part of the football club.”
- Kenny Dalglish
Iron Man: The Sean Fallon story (a co-production with BT Sport films)
Adapted from, and building upon, the critically acclaimed book ‘Sean Fallon: Celtic’s Iron Man’ (published by BackPage Press), this film will explore the incredible life of one of football’s lesser-known heroes through interviews, archive footage, animated sequences and, by using an actor portraying Sean Fallon, quotes from the man himself.
The film will depict Fallon’s time as a young man in Ireland, realising his unlikely dream of signing for Celtic after being banned from playing Gaelic football, then finding himself in a contentious and highly political tug-of-war between the island's two national teams. It will also trace his hugely successful partnership with the legendary Jock Stein, under which Celtic enjoyed unprecedented success, winning a record nine successive league titles and becoming the first British team to lift the European Cup. Scouting and signing players was one of Fallon's most significant roles in that partnership, and the film will show how he emerged as Britain's greatest talent-spotter by bringing the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain, Paul McStay, Packie Bonner and several of those European Cup-winning Lisbon Lions to Celtic Park. Several major figures, including Sir Alex Ferguson - to whom the Irishman was a mentor - will also explain what Fallon meant to them, and how he impacted their lives and careers.
